Take Your Camera Everywhere!

Take Your Camera Everywhere!

Having cell phones with cameras these days, it’s a lot easier to say, “I don’t need my camera. I have one in my pocket.” While you might get some cool shots, you won’t get the BEST shot you can get, if your camera is objectively better than your phone.

I had to take a trip to Washington DC yesterday (January 17, days before the inauguration) to pick someone up from the airport. I knew I was going to bring my camera with me because I wanted to have every chance to get some cool shots while I was there. I figured I’d have time before the person landed and got off the plane.

I was going to just bring my camera and one lens. So I could travel light and just have something with me. I decided the day before to pack up my camera bag with all 3 of the lenses I own, and I’m glad I did.

I wouldn’t have any of the photos I have today if I didn’t do that. Because I brought my 100-300mm lens I was able to get fantastic shots from such a long range. From that airport parking garage, I got a shot of the Washington Monument. With my other lens, it would have been a tiny little building in the middle of the frame.

And I wouldn’t have gotten what are my two favorite shots of the day. Because I would have never gotten close enough otherwise.

Always come prepared. And have your camera out and ready! I almost missed that sunset at the top of this post because I had put my camera away on the ride home!
